Classic Flyer by Kettler 12" Retro Trike Review

Classic Flyer by Kettler 12 Retro Trike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I want to tell anybody reading this that this is a great tricycle. It is of a strong, almost only metal construction. My only concern concerning construction is the fork for the front wheel. The last inch or so of the fork on both sides is plastic. I can see the purpose of it (a bushing for the shaft of the front wheel), but I would think that there would be a way to make it of metal construction and put a plastic bushing inside the metal construction. In spite of that, I feel this trike is a good choice, far better, of course, than any of those plastic things that they call tricycles. This trike is well strong enough for me (160 pounds) to step on the rear deck and ride there. I almost feel comfortable (concerning durability) to sit down on the seat. It's only the front plastic forks that concern me there.
As a summary, this is it. If you are looking for a strong, sturdy trike that will last and not tip easily, you have got to get one of these, a Classic Flyer made by Kettler.

I just ordered the smart trike all in one online and its made wrong. The handle bars dont even fit on the trike. My friend had the same problem and she purchased it in store. I dont even know why they are selling them. You can clearly see its an error. And unless you know how to burn 2 perfect holes thru plastic the back of the child's seat, you don't have any way of repairing it because its inside the already built trike. DO NOT BUY UNTIL THEY RECALL THIS ITEM AND START OVER!

Let me say that this is the first item I have ever returned to Amazon! I was so excited when this tricycle arrived for my grandson's 1st birthday then equally disappointed when he got in it for his first ride - it tips over at the slightest bump and the tires squeak like crazy! It is so flimsy, it's more like for a child's doll to ride in! I'm hoping mine is just defective and they're not all like this! I'm going with a sturdy Kettler tricycle!

Proving that kids' products can be both functional and fun at the same time, the Smart Trike Recliner tricycle contributes to your children's motor skills at an early age and keeps them smiling in the process. The Smart Trike Recliner--winner of multiple awards for toy design--is actually four trikes in one. It starts as a baby push trike for 6-month-olds, with an adjustable seat, seat belt, footrest, and safety bar guaranteed a safe, convenient ride. The seat also reclines backward so that your baby can easily take a nap at any time. At 10-plus months, you can remove the footrest and turn the Smart Trike Recliner into a more traditional push trike, with nonslip pedals that introduce your child to the concept of pedaling as you push from behind (the trike also includes a foot brake system for parents). At 15-plus months--when your child is ready to take the next step--simply release the press-out clutch. This gives your child added control for fun, independent riding while you walk behind. Finally, at 24-plus months, you can push down the telescoping handle and turn the Smart Trike Recliner into a fully independent tricycle.
The Smart Trike Recliner includes a number of handy non-riding features, too, including a storage bag for diapers, snacks, and other essentials; a tipping bucket on the rear for toys; a high-quality, washable seat cover; and an adjustable, removable sun canopy that protects your child from excessive UV exposure. Winner of the Toy Innovation 2009 award in the Fun + Sport category and a Right Start gold medalist in the Sit and Ride category, the Smart Trike Recliner is recommended for ages 6 months to 36 months.
About Smart Trike The Hong Kong-based Smart Trike designs and markets products that help develop a child's motor skills at a very young age. The company opened its doors in 1988 with the goal of helping children build confidence through easy function and comfort. Today, Smart Trike is the world's leading manufacturer in the tricycle field, and provides smart, innovative solutions to all cycling stages, from baby to toddler to pre-schooler. This bike is incredibly durable! We have had it for two years now and it still works perfectly. It is an outside toy and has survived dozens of rainstorms and a few blizzards and the electronics are still going strong. Both of my kids (ages 2 and 3) love this bike!!

We first got it for my 3year old daughter. It then was used by my next daughter and now my son. Awesome trike! Pump the tires up and let them go. across the yard, off curbs you name it. Currenty my 2 1/2 year old son rides it and nothing stops him. The trike stands up to anything, even being partially run over with the car. Only down side is that may kids can go so fast on it (even two year old) it should have brakes beyond them putting their feet down. When my daughters were about 5 they could give me a ride when I stood on the back (level driveway).

Radio Flyer Tailspin Trike, Red Review

Radio Flyer Tailspin Trike, Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, this toy definitely requires the rider to be wearing a helmet and I would also strongly recommend knee and elbow pads. As the description states, the rider drives straight and then pulls on the bar which results in a wicked spin out. Beware however that the rider will spin quickly and if they are close to anything when they pull this bar (such as a parked car), they could spin right into it. My husband was able to assemble the trike without any difficulty. What I noticed right away was this toy was really light weight. Our 6 (almost 7) year old son thought it was incredibly cool to ride. Unfortunately however the handlebar assembly snapped literally in my son's hand while he was in spinout mode making the bike completely inoperable (lightweight materials do have their downside). This occurred after only about 3 uses. There is clearly a lot of force placed on the handlebar when the rider is spinning out. We contacted Radio Flyer directly and they were aware of this problem (they thought they had resolved it before marketing the product) and sent the appropriate replacement parts. It took a while to disassemble the bike to install the new handlebar however it was worth the effort because our son really loves this trike. All in all, a very enjoyable toy and major thumbs up to Radio Flyer for standing behind their product and quickly replacing the defective parts.
Update....After several more uses, all tires are wearing out very prematurely. This trike will be inoperable after a few more uses as the tires, which are nearly bald, will have absolutely no tread left. Considering how expensive this trike was, I'm actually disappointed in the overall durability of this toy. It's still a lot of fun, just don't expect to have more than two months of serious play time with it.
2nd update - handle bar broke AGAIN. Had to send it back to the company for their quality assurance unit to inspect. They sent a replacement scooter (free) that our son loved.

Shift to spin out! The Tailspin offers two ways to ride. Ride fast and straight on wide rear tires and front wheel with performance grip tread. Or pull the spin-out bar to release the back caster wheels for extreme spin-out action! The steel frame is designed for ultimate stability, and the adjustable seat ensures a customized fit that will grow with your child. The Tailspin also comes with rubber handlebar grips and a molded seat for maximum comfort. It also has performance traction tread on front tire.

Little Tikes 3 in 1 Trike Review

Little Tikes 3 in 1 Trike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Little Tikes 3-in-1 Smart Trike is exactly what it claims to be, 'Smart'. Our 17 month old was more than ready for a tricycle but we wanted one that he could be pushed in until he was old enough to reach the peddles and ride on his own. This is the perfect learn as you grow tricycle. It starts off with a safety loop and shoulder harness for the toddler. And the push bar allows the adult to steer. The peddles also have a unique feature. They allow you to move the 'clutch' ring outward and disengage the peddles so that the toddler who can reach the peddles but isn't quite ready to actually keep up with the peddles while it's in push mode can rest their feet on the peddles without it being dangerous. Then when the toddler is ready to peddle, the clutch ring can be moved inward to engage the peddles with the movement of the front wheel. This is a great idea! In the second stage the shoulder harness straps can be removed from the seatback safteyloop and the shoulder harness straps are to be attached to the seat to become a lap harness. - (Something that wasnn't clear to some of the reviewers I read previously). So in the second stage you still have a seat belt. - The final stage, Stage 3 is simply to remove the push handle and the stationary footrests fold and flip up conveniently out of the way. All in all this is a very well thought out design. The construction is also very sturdy with an all steel frame, but the safety features are what really sets it apart from the crowd. - I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a tricycle for a toddler just starting out and who can't yet reach the peddles. They can enjoy it for many months until they are ready to graduate to a small bicycle with training wheels. - Oh, and don't forget to always have yor toddler wear a safety helmet, and once they start riding by themselves to not ride out of the driveway on to the street without stopping... Teach them to stop and look for cars, it will be a lesson well worth teaching. - Ride safe.

Worksman Port-o-Trike Three Speed Adult Tricycle Review

Worksman Port-o-Trike Three Speed Adult Tricycle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I chose an adult trike, as I have a balance problem, and can no longer ride a bike. Assembly took some time, but it arrived more assembled than most. It feels sturdy and comfortable when I ride. The hand brake and coaster brake are easy to use. It is hilly, where I live and I have no trouble slowing down or stopping, on downward slopes. (If you do live in a hilly place, having 3 speeds is a very good idea.)
I find it is easy on my back and knees and feels stable, when I ride. However, if you are used to riding a 2-wheeler, you should be aware that a trike feels surprisingly different. You may need some practice before it feels natural to ride it. (On good advice, I found an open area and rode figure-8's until I got the knack of steering it.)
It has given me back the pleasure of pedaling, which I missed very much.

This is the best toy that we've bought so far, and our child is almost a year old. Very durable, easy to steer, high quality, and extremely well engingeered (hubby - a mechanical engineer - agrees). Fisher-Price Diego Adventure Trike™ (Colors may vary)
Average Reviews:

This was bought as a gift for my son's 3rd birthday. He loves it and it on it daily. We have only used this in the house and on the grass in the backyard so I am not sure how the plastic wheels will hold up to the rough pavement on the road but they seem tough enough. The seat at the closest setting is almost too long for my son. He has a 13 inch inseam, just turned 3 years, and just barely has a bend in his legs when his feet are on the pedals. Because of this, he prefers to scoot using his feet to push himself across the floor. I think he'll grow into this by summer but the age says 2-6. I think 3 1/2 is a better age for size, especially if you are looking to use the pedals. Other than that, I have no complaints. The handlebars were somewhat of a pain to get on and I had to go buy a new screw since I ended up stripping the head of the one that came with it. But overall, this is a great toy that my son seems to be attached to. He loves the sounds and has quickly picked up which direction is left and which is right. I would definitely recommend this toy.

We bought this tricycle for our son who is almost 2. He is in the 90th % for his height, so we didn't even consider that it may be too small for him. But he can't reach the pedals at all, even with the seat in the lowest position. Not even close. We have to buy him a new trike so he has something to ride until he grows into this one. But in the meantime, he loves the bike. He stands in front of it to ring the bell and play with the streamers on the handlebars. He will sit on the back "step" and say "vroom vroom" pretending he is riding it. I think that once he finally grows into it he will really enjoy it. I can't wait to see him riding on it! But based on the size, I think it's better for a child closer to 3 years old.

Radio Flyer 79S Big Flyer Review

Radio Flyer 79S Big Flyer
Average Reviews:

I wanted to replace a tricycle, because our son was wheeling downhill too fast for me and I wanted him on a more stable, less likely to tip over three wheeler. Now four and at 42" tall, he is just big enough to pedal it. He has a bit of a problem going up our slight hills, but I think that will improve as he gets taller. The adjustable seat works well, and overall is well made and easy to assemble. The flag makes him more visable, but I do not let him ride without me along side on my bike anyway. For me, it is the coolest looking Big Wheel out there. With two more adjustments left in the seat, there's plenty of room for him to grow.

Our daughter's always been tall & thin for her age. She received this ride-on just before she turned 1. She could take steps on her own but was not yet walking. She immediately loved this ride-on. She has enjoyed it for the last 2 years. She is currently 38 mo., 30 lbs., 38.5 inches tall. She still rides the bike with ease and enjoys it in the house. She pedals her Kettrike outside just fine and has done so for at least 8 months. THIS is a SUPER durable, cute, functional, fun, long-lasting ride-on with great value for the money. It turns with ease and rolls well over area rugs. We have found it goes fastest on hard floors, but is ok on carpet as well. FUN, FUN ride-on!
