This product works perfectly. You screw the middle-section of the tool into threads on the crank that are designed to accept this type of tool. There is a central screw that the handle and an insert are attached to; you turn the handle and this causes the screw to move laterally. The insert pushes against the bottom bracket while the middle-section pushes outward (held in by the threads) and eventually the crank comes off. This tool uses torque and a screw to increase the amount of force you can apply parallel to the bottom bracket, making it much, much easier to remove a crank, which seems to have a death-grip on the bottom bracket.
However, be sure to choose the correct size insert (it comes with a small one and a large one). The large one is pre-installed on the tool. However, if it is too big to fit through the hole in the crank (as it was for me), you will completely strip the threads out. It took over an hour to get the stripped crank off and I now have to buy a new one. It is completely my fault for not checking the fit of the insert, but perhaps Pedro's could ship the tool with the small insert pre-installed to keep users like me who are beginners from stripping the threads out. Users who needed the larger insert would probably not be at risk of stripping their threads out with the smaller one.
