Parents/ Grandparents/ Loving Friends and Relatives of Young Riders... please study the promotional photos and product literature closely before purchasing the Kawasaki Mono... it might be better described as a second tricycle than a first bicycle-- mostly because it is very small (the purported 12" tires are really on 8" rims)... but also because it seems to have been proportioned for toddlers: children with shorter legs and longer torsos... the seat and handlebars are only slightly adjustable, which means that the bike will either fit your child out-of-the-box or it probably won't ever... there is only one caliper brake, the front one: the one that will flip your child over the handlebars if they apply it before the coaster brake... to stop safely, your child must learn to operate the coaster brake, so the front caliper brake becomes superfluous... the distance between the peak of the pedal travel and the middle of the seat in its uppermost position is shorter than the same measurement on two tricycles that my kids have now; so, it looks like their knees almost hit their chins when they ride this 'bicycle'... meanwhile, the distance between the middle of the seat and the grips of the handlebars is 2-3" longer than the same measurement on their tricycles; so, they have to lean forward to steer while at the same time their legs look scrunched... the assembly manual covers many different models of cycles-- except this one...! if your child is in-between 'tricycle' and 'bicycle,' then either get a Schwinn Roadster tricycle or a Huffy 16" bicycle instead of the Kawasaki Mono...

Tired of the same-old style of boys' bikes? Turn to the Kawasaki Monocoque 12-inch boys' bicycle, which offers a durable steel monocoque (French for "single shell") frame that's sure to stand out in a crowd. The bike, which is intended for kids just learning to ride, offers such features as a fully enclosed chainguard that keeps your child's fingers safe, along with a set of training wheels for getting up to speed. The hand and coaster brakes, meanwhile, deliver sure stopping power. Other details include a soft padded saddle, knobby tires that stand up to riding in the mud, and a bell on the handlebars.
