(More customer reviews)have just had this item built into a new rear wheel for some distance riding. put about 30 miles on it the first week with an additional 100 a few days ago. doesn't seem to require any breaking in period. works really well; can shift when stopped, but not too well when under load.
the hub is HEAVY (built into a 700c rim it weighs approx 11 lbs); so possibly not the best bet if weight is of primary concern. was also a bit complicated to install the cables and shifter.
this hub is definitely an investment, and hopefully it will prove to be a wise one as it gets some mileage and abuse :o)
